Use Bio Oil - my daughter used this right through pregnancy and went from a size 8 to HUGE. All she got was a few minor stretch marks on the underside of her bump and her skin is lovely and soft. Try it - its more expensive than other lotions but worth it. Make sure your girlfriend keeps up the use though. Good luck with the baby xx

Sadly there isn't really anything she can do to prevent them.
Stretch marks are just a result of your skin's elasticity (or lack of it) and as with everything else in pregnancy - everyone is different!
All the expensive creams on the market are really just a rip off. They will not stop stretch marks at all if your gf has the kind of skin which is prone to getting them.
All the cream do is "moisturise" your skin and that will not stop the capillaries bursting under stress (the cause of stretch marks) if your gf's skin is of the type to get stretch marks.
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and have been lucky enough not to get any stretch marks. I haven't done anything to my skin, haven't used any creams, lotions or potions at all. I've had the worse morning sickness, so maybe the lack of stretch marks is to make up for this. I obviously have skin which stretches well.
Other women I've met have been literally covered in stretch marks! And some of them have been assiduously oiling and moisturising all the way through their pregnancy. To no avail.
Tell your gf not to stress about it. She can try some cocoa butter cream if it makes her feel better but sadly if she's going to get them she's going to get them. The good thing is that they will fade after a while until they are just like transparent marks on her skin.

Just keep the tummy well moisturised with something like cocoa butter to keep it as soft as possible but in the end whether you get stretch marks or not just depends on the type of skin you have. It often follows that if your mum got them, you might too and vice-versa. But anyway... you're going to get a lovely baby what do a few stretch marks matter?

Unfortunately, I agree with the Answerer who suggested your wife look at her own mother. Some people can stretch their skin a lot with no stretch marks. Others -- just can't.
Stretch marks do tend to become silvery and less visible with age. They are a small price for a terrific new little person, in my opinion. Cheers.

Hi, I'm glad to hear that you are both thrilled about the pregnancy, however if your girlfriend is going to get stretch marks then unfortunately there is nothing to stop this natural process, it really is your just your luck, my missus and I have four children including twins and she has hardly got a visible mark, she used baby oil every day to keep skin moist, Good Luck and I wish you all good health................

Coco butter ASAP! I waited way to long before anyone ever told me. I had stretch marks before pregnancy, but I so wish I had known right when I got pregnant. The sooner the better and do it twice a day!

Just tell her to slather on any good moisturizer twice a day, morning and evening, and drink lots of water. I don't know if I believe that any one brand or type works better than another. Most of the time I just use whatever is handy. When her stomech starts getting REALLY big, her tummy will itch like crazy. Whenever it starts to itch, tell her to put on more lotion and rub it in really good instead of scratching. Scratching makes strech marks worse and the lotion makes it feel sooo much better. And staying hydrated really does increase the elasticity of your skin so make sure she drinks TONS of water.

Nothing can change the skin's natural elasticity. Save your money for the baby. If she gets them a few trips to the tanning bed with help shrink them. Tell her strech marks are a thing of honor. I call them mommy marks.
