Concept albums generally revolve around a central theam and all the songs on it are base around that theme. They are generally made by a collective of musicians with one of them at the helm. Sometimes they are also different stylistically from the type of music the main artist generally makes. Concept albums are made in various genre's. I am most familiar with the hiphop/electronica genre so will give you some examples in that genra. The Gorillaz are a concept band. The are a collective of musicians of different types and they come together to make sonic magic! Damon Albarn whos sings lead for the band Blur (indie/alternative) masterminded that whole project with production work from Dan the Automator (hiphop/triphop) and it feature many guest appearences by rappers (del the funky homoseapien) and the lead singer from the band Cibbo Mato..i forget her name. Music by the Gorillaz if hard to classify.. is it rock, rap, techno...its neither....that is a concept. Some toher concept albums are "Smile" by Brian wilson, Deltron 3030 by Del the funkey Homoseapien, Born to run by Bruce Springsteen is another good example...for more info on concept albums look no further than this link....... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concept_album. The Beatles "Sergeant Pepper's", Also when people like Rod Stewart do cover albums of old show tunes, etc... They are sticking with one concept and pushing it out
