Who are the taliban exactly?
I know they are a terrorist in the middle east but more specifically who are they?

I know they are a terrorist group, but for a project for school i need to know who they are and who is in the group.

the Taliban are a group of muslims in Afganistan who the US supported with guns and money when the Russians invaded Afganistan but now the US have invaded (sorry, "liberated"), the Taliban are out of favour. (to put it mildly)
Consistency was never a strong point of US foreign relations, was it?

The Taliban is a guerilla and intelligence network created by PAKISTANI INTELLIGENCE to harass and disrupt the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1987. The Taliban were successful in downing helicopters and disrupting Soviet logistics and became the most important power in fractured Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the Soviet Union.
The United States offered material assistance to the Afghanistan freedom fighters (famously including "Stinger" hand-held anti-aircraft missles). The US was not in control of the Taliban after the Soviet retreat. The present connection between the Taliban and Pakistani intelligence is very murky indeed.
The Taliban used to receive, and still receives, funding from wealthy, militant Muslims, especially from Saudi Arabia.
