I'm 16 years old never played football but going to play high school football as a defensive lineman. I'm a bit out of shape but I'm really working on it. I also have natural stregth for someone who hasn't worked out much and I have support from people and actual football players in my school says the coaches will work with me. I feel like God is leading me in this direction so therefore I'm going in that direction. Yes I'm christian. I want to become a defensive lineman very badley. Any suggestions I'm feeling a little unconfident. Jesus Loves and Adores.

Just practice and learn your playbook.

Being a Christian also, I realize that YOU have to put forth the effort. Believing alone in Jesus Christ as your Savior will not help you make tackles or keep you from getting blocked off of the line.

A true role model for young Christian football players, especially at DE or DT is the late Reggie White.

I suggest you need to start putting forth the effort NOW by starting to jog around your neighborhood and getting yourself in shape. If you don't have the cardiovascular levels to keep yourself active on the field for every play, your strength won't be doing you much good on the bench.

Also, don't be discouraged if your coaches get in your face and yell at you or tell you that you aren't good enough. Only you can decide if you are truly good enough. Your coaches are attempting to motivate you and use that energy to make yourself as good as you possibly can. Whether that means you are a bench player or All-State, what is important is that you put forth max effort.

I recommend doing a Yahoo or Google search for Reggie White to find out information on him. Not only was he a great DE for the Eagles and Packers, but he was a minister that preached and followed the teachings of Christ.

Starting out at 16 having never played you are at a huge disadvantage. Even at that age you'll be playing against kids with 4 or 5 years experience already. Just work hard and see what happens but I wouldn't get your hopes to high, especially this first year.

givin that i am a former defensive end and offensive gaurd pratice your staces and qb cadences those are 2 huge things being able to get off the line quick without being offsides is key. if u can get out of your stace before the o-line all u do if stick you right arm out and put him to the side u could also use the swim move or the over under. as for cadence have the schools qb work with u. get in your 3 point stance and have him run a few different cadence's until your off the line with a quickness and in his face. dont hit him though or the rest of the team will punish u.as for strength and conditioning that will come during practice when u are doing down ups. omg they hurt like hell but really do help. if u wanna lose a little weight to gain muscle pull the rocky move run the stands in your high school stadium. feel the burn kid. its gonna be a lot of work but u gotta stick with it it will eventually pay off.

I was a offensive lineman in school, and the best thing I can tell you is to give it 100%. But in the mean time, you need to get into shape mentally and physically. Start lifting weights and you need to get a little mean to be an effective player. Keep that in mind and you will be fine.

High School football is a little different because there is not a fair playing field of recruiting/talent that the pros have. Even College does not have completely fair recruiting because some schools have a lot more money than others. If a pro team is getting blown out, they should just deal with it and try to stop the other team. If a high school team is getting blown out, the other team should not stop running plays, but they should stop running up the score because these are unpaid kids trying to have fun. I played HS ball, and everyone wants to win, but there is no need to embarras a team that maybe only has a limited amount of kids come out for the team.

I'm glad you want to be a lineman (I was too) and I'm even more glad you are a Christian (me too), but God doesn't really lead you in one direction or the other when it comes to things like sports.
