Has anyone colored their hair during their pregnancy? I read that there are unconfirmed affects to the baby, but nothing is in stone. My hair has outgrown it's streaks, but I dont need a coloring THAT bad if its bad for the baby...

Try using vegetable based dies, they make less fumes.
Also, there is no problem f you streak your hair, highlights don't usually touch your roots, so chemicals wont go into your blood stream.
My mother is an OB/GYN, and she allows her patients to do it.
I have also kept up with my hair colorings during my pregnancy, just not on the first trimester.

Some people believe that the chemicals get into your bloodstream and effect your baby. However, when I was in hairdressing school (8 years ago) we were taught that the only real concern is the fumes from the colours/bleach. If you want to be super careful then you could get your hair highlighted in a well ventilated area.

I had two different doctors tell me the opposite things. When My highlights were starting to look bad, I went in to my salon (it was also my last time doing this while pregnant) and she colored my hair all one color ( my natural color). All the people in the salon said they had their hair done all the way thru their pregnancies and never once was there a problem.

There are no facts on the effects to a baby. But my hair lady told me that as long as you are not expesed to fumes, then you should be ok. But keep in mind, due to the hormones in your system, if you lighten your hair then it might not turn out the color you want. I have heard you can go dark without problems, but if you lighten it might go orange and not blond.

Anything that doesn't have ammonia is safest while pregnant. But after the fist trimester it is safe to color your hair with any hair dye. Just make sure that the room is well ventilated.

I think it's the smell of the chemicals people are worried about also I have heard hairdresser's say that sometimes color won't take well when someone is pregnant. I guess its a hormone thing.

I asked my Doctor and his midwife nurse abou tit. They said there is no research that proves any problems with coloring your hair during pregnancy. Especially if you only do it once and a while. If you were a beautician working with those chemicals everyday then it would be a different story.

Theres no proof that it can cause harm to the baby, but theres no proof that its safe either.

I dyed my hair in the begining of my pregnancy, but I sat outside to do it to make sure that there was plenty of fresh air!!
