Due to the combination of rising water levels and increasing obesity in the population?

The weight of the people has nothing to do with it; the food they eat is taken from farm land, so the overall weight should stay the same shouldn't it?

In some area of the US, most notable the south west, a gigantic aquifer has been tapped for irrigation. With less water under the ground, the layer above are slowly collapsing (this is a dry area, so one cannot count of rain to replenish the aquifer). On the other hand, the norther portion of the US (and most of Canada for that matter) was under the weight and pressure of kilometer high ice cap during the last ice age. Without that weight pressing down, that land is slowly decompressing.

Then you have the local problems, like New Orleans where the water under the ground was drained and pumped out, causing a sinking of the city that made the last year flooding worse.

And if the water level of the ocean gets higher, yes, there could be coastal flooding.

it's true that water levels are rising, but that is different than the continent "sinking".

also, I don't think the weight gain of the population is enough to "sink" the continent. Far more likely would be the increase in population. But even that wouldn't be enough.

No, the USA is not sinking.

Actually, Karl Rove is engaged in a project to inject superfluos brain matter from around the world into the deep mines to prevent the sinking so we all can continue to eat.
