i know this is stupid, but i am tooo freaking nice and cannot say no. my friend just called me (best friend) and she wanted to know if i could do a quit claim. didnt really tell me everything but that she wanted to own something and i guess she's trying to get money out of her house but she doesnt have enough credit to do so or her credit score isnt good?? i dont know what is wrong with this girl. she says the house is in her name- if so why wouldnt she have credit???? anyways, i gave her my info..... what exactly is a quit claim and would it affect me in any way????
im scared now and believe me, i know i shouldnt have gave her my info.

i think i posted this twice. sorry. but no i have no properties with her and i dont have an interest in her home so i dont know why she would need me to do a quit claim with her or whatever.
i did give her my ss# so that's why im basically knocking my head against the wall now. i have no idea what she wants nor did she explain to me what she was going to do- but basically she wants some money but cant get it and needs my info to get it.

Do you have any claim to her house? Is she asking you to provide her with a quit-claim to your interest in a property you own with her?

A quit claim deed is a legal document by which a person releases or "quits" any claim that they may have had to property. Of the different types of deeds, the quit-claim has the least assurance that the person receiving it will actually get any rights. The person who provides a quit-claim deed makes no warranty or representation that they actually own anything. The quit-claim merely provides that whatever they had or may have had, they are conveying it. Other types of deeds are judicial deeds, warranty deeds, deeds of trust, will deeds, and sheriff's deeds.

If the personal info you provided is limited to your name, address and phone number, then you probably don't have anything to worry about.

You should never give out your social security number, your driver's license number, your mother's maiden name or any other more critical information to someone that you may have reason not to trust.

It isn't stupid, this is something that could have adverse effects on you, her and others.

Definition: Quitclaim deeds transfer or "quit" any interest in real property. The grantor may not be in title at all, so the grantee cannot assume that the grantor has any real interest to convey. However, if the grantor were, say, married to the owner of the property, signing and recording a quitclaim deed in favor of the spouse would transfer any interest the grantor may have in the property to the spouse.

My ex-wife signed a quit claim on my home which I paid for in total, her investment was nil. She put nothing in so had nothing coming to her. Be careful, know the facts before doing anything that might put you at legal risk.

A quit claim releases any claim you may have on her for money or rights to a property. The bit below is taken from one.

The good bit is that as long as you have not signed anything you haven't done it. The signature also needs witnessing.

It doesn't sound like anything she would need for what she says so sounds like she is after your personal info for another reason.

"That the said first party, for good consideration and for the sum of $_______________ paid by the said second party, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, does hereby remise, release and quitclaim unto the said second party forever, all the right, title, interest and claim which the said first party has in and to the following described parcel of land, and improvements and appurtenances thereto in the County of_____________________, State of_______________, to wit:"

i think what she's trying to do is refinancing her house but she doesn't have a good fico score so maybe she would add you to the title so in a couple of month she can refinance under your name and she would do a quit claim which mean she would totally take her name out of the loan but she could still be in the title. thats the only reason i can think off.
