According to expedia.com, the driving distance from Sparta to Piraeus is 128 miles or roughly 3 hours. As the other poster suggested, you can take a ferry to Crete - depends where in Crete you want to go.

If you want to travel from Sparti, which is a midland town to Crete, which is an island, you will definately need to do one of the following:
1. Drive to Athens and catch a plane to Crete (recommended)
2. Drive to Piraeus and catch a boat to Crete (suggested)
3. Drive to Geraki (Eastern coast of Peloponisos) and catch the boat, going from Piraeus to Chania/Crete on the "off-trade" route (I just mentioned it as a last resource, don't try it!).
Good luck!
