I just moved to a new place a month ago. I hooked up my washing machine and it worked fine until a few days ago. It won't fill up. As the water is going into the tub, it's draining out. I had the appliance repair man here, and he told me that the drain pipe wasn't long enough, thus not creating a vacuum to keep the water in the tub.. I had to lengthen the drain pipe in order to fix the problem.

My question is : Can this possibly be true? It makes no sense. How could it work for a month, and suddenly not work anymore.. how could the drain pipe be long enough for a month, and not now?

He didn't charge me anything, and he didn't recommend a plumber. He just told me to buy a length of pipe and lengthen it myself.. but I still think the washer's broken.

The plumbing pipe where the Washer drain hose connects, must be as high as the normal water level in the Washer, about 3 to 4 feet, if not , gravity will make it drain, - if that Pipe is the right hight then you might ,then you might have a malfunction in the Solonoid valve, and pump making it drain.

Did he charge you to lengthen the pipe? If he charged you more then $10 he's hosing you.

Some the idiots that do washing machine repairs aren't the brightest bulbs in the pack.

Make sure you don't have kinks in the hoses. Check the water pressure..

Actually, there is a transfer pump on your washing machine that pumps the water out through the hose. I am willing to bet that would be your culprit, the pump, or there is a relay that activates it that may have went bad.
