Stop thinking about trying to fall asleep, take a hot bath and lie down and it might just happen. Or you could stay up for days until you're tired enough to sleep. Always go to bed at the same time.

which happens quite often....
If I can't sleep, I get up, read a book or take a warm bath. If I really need to go to sleep and know that it's gonna be a "up and awake most of the night" night, then I take a couple Tylonal PMs or a muscle relaxer. Almost every night no matter what, I wake up at midnight then again around 230 and then 5. If I don't wake at midnight then it's 1AM and 3 and up for the rest of the night.

If you have someone to do this I suggest a back massage. They always make me pass out. Books are good too, but they can make you stay awake as well because your mind is still thinking aboput it even when you stop. Try to have atleast 30 min of quiet time before you go to bed. Stop eating 2 hours before bed, and don't have any cafenated drinks 3 hours before bed. Refrain from excercise about 1-2 hours before bed as well.

I have heard that if you are having trouble falling asleep, try to stay awake. I can't remember where I heard that but it works for me.

Throw back a bunch of tall boys, eat some pork cracklins, and watch some country music television until you pass out. It seems to work for me.
