There is an online site you can use for free that will let you know where your computers biggest shortcomings are from. Anything from having bad ram, slow internet, spyware, etc.

www.pcpitstop.com

On the left you can click "Full Tests."
Then you will click the key that says "New Members."

After all the tests are done then you can view the results. You can view a table that will talk about the conditions of different components of your computers. Any thing with a checkered flag means it is working fine, anything with a yellow flag means there can be some improvement and anything with a red flag means you need to fix it. If you get any red flags, view each one and follow the instructions on how to make things better. Most fixes are very simple, fee but sometimes time consuming.

Good luck and feel free to message if you have any questions about the results.

1. Get a new computer.
2. Take it to a quality computer repair shop and ask them to run an inexpensive diagnostics test on it. This only takes a short time and they can probably advise you of what to do to fix the problem.
3. Get some anti-virus software and use it daily.

Good luck! It's not a good sign when they freeze up.

Try a defrag as well as a disk cleanup. You can find the utilities at start/controlpanel/maintenance. You might also want to go to start/controlpanel/add and remove programs, to see what programs you have that may be running in the background on your computer. Do not remove any programs if you dont know what they are. Just remove programs that you know for a fact what they are and you know you dont use them.

Last ditch effort: buy a memory upgrade. If you are running on 256 mb right now, upgrade to 512 or even to 1gig. They usually cost about 50-100 dollars and they are really easy to install.

A few things. First download spybot search and destroy. You can get it at download.com. download the updates with that and then scan your computer. this will probably speed it up. Also make sure your antivirus software is up to date. run a full system scan. if you don't have antivirus software download AVG. you can get it at free.grisoft.com.

If neither helps, probably needs a good cleaning, and a memory upgrade. You could take it in or hit up a friend who is decent with computers. Memory is easy to install and if you take it in, it'll cost you.
