Well obviously I'm not much of a sports enthusiast myself (I enjoy watching them sometimes, but not religiously), but I was wondering how do the athletes manage to attend classes and travel from town to town or city to city while still in school? Or do the 'seasons' for sports get scheduled during summertime or winter when there's no school? Or do they go play on weekends? I ask because I was always perplexed as to how athletes could travel to other places to play against the teams there and manage to get their required classroom time.

I played baseball in college and it does good time management. I went to a big, Division 1 school in Michigan and we DID have to earn our grades. We had study tables before and after practices. We had an academic "helper" on our road trips. The only preferential treatment we got as athletes was being allowed to register for classes before the rest of the students. We were required to have our classes finished before 2 during the week so we could make practices. If we had games out of town during the week, we missed class. It was our responsibility to tell the teacher before we left and in a lot of cases if we were going to be gone on a test day, we had to take the test before we left not after we got back. In my case, before our games began we would practice 6 days per week for at least 2 hours a day. Once the season started we usually played 2 or 3 games during the week, games every Fri, Sat & Sun and practice on days we didn't play. During the season, you had no social life, it was school and baseball. When we were out of season it wasn't so bad.

High school sports are scheduled around school. You're normally not traveling very far and most games are after school. College is a different story. Obviously, class is missed from time to time. Studying and tutors make up for the class time missed.

A good deal of tutors and what they call "Study table." High Schools usually do not have that problem as major tournaments or travel is usually scheduled around school.

Do you honestly think that most of these athletes actually earn their grades? I'm sure that some of them do but I don't think all of them do. I don't understand how they could keep up with all the travel, practices and school. Must be nice to get a degree because you can play sports.
