I am/was having the same problem.Just like yours,my connection is fine.But despite that,i get the pop up which says 'a network cable is unplugged' everytime i switch on my laptop.I contacted my DSL provider who couldn't help me.Finally contacted HP who then suggested this website www.support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910389&SD=tech.Try reading the article to troubleshoot your problem.I am sure the problem has nothing to do with your firewall but most probably.with the network cable.As for me,i still get the pop up and i havent tried changing my network cable as the connection is fine.Why change something which works fine?Hope this helps.The article no for this problem is 910389.

I have workder with a company as a Provider of DSL / BroadBand Connecton and so I know that this message is displayed when you are not getting the Link properly or the Ethernet/LAN Cable is is not properly connected to your Modem/Computer.

I am not sure if your Firewall setting is preventing the network/internet connection through the Lan/Ethernet Cable. So, check the firewall settings and turn of some of its options or turn of the firewall for the testing purpose.

try this
go to network connections
start menu-> settings->network connections
and enable ur network connection, if it is not
Or try plugging your cable properly in the socket(check)
(remove it and plug it again)
It is possible that your cable is not carrying any signal
at all(disconnected from it's source,contact cable operator)
verify with people staying in ur neighbourhood and using the same service(from same cable operator)
hope this helps.

It may be an old connection (you may have had dial up before) that you dont need any longer. Go to ..Start ,, Settings.. Network connections... and disable the connection you dont need... The one that keeps popping up... But if you find you do need it after all... then enable it... :)

well sometimes some high speed service drops temporarily (a second or two or longer) and that's when you'd get that message (provided all your connectiosn are ok)
