If someone is helping and hiding a runaway, how much trouble could they get into? And how much trouble could a teen get into for running away if caught? (<= With the law?) Also if they runaway and don't get caught or found and has proven to be able to take care of themself by paying for themself (From bills to food), then could they be emancipated at sixteen or would they just get sent home and get introuble? All the information you have about running away, emancipation, and the law would be great. Thank you...

Can you transfer school districts without parent permission? Or could I have a grandparent do it?

My mom is verbally abusive towards me, and just tried to choke me yesterday. She's not usually physically abusive, but lately she is starting to get more physical towards me... I don't want to report her because I'm afraid, so I just want to leave and when I turn 16 become truely emancipated...

not sure about the laws in the states, but you are talking to someone who ran away, and who had reason to.
Running away should never be an option, I left when I was seventeen, and for over ten years my life was a living hell.
I left school and didn't go back, I tried but didn't stay long enough, I wanted freedom, and had to choose work and life over an education.
I was fortunate to not to have to live on the streets, but I met a few who had, and got into drugs... it isn't a good lifestyle.
I got pregnant only a year after I left home, and it didn't end there... I now have four children, and had to live as a single mom with three young kids barely in school... no education does not amount to an ideal job... I worked in a glass factory, back breaking work, bending and stooping cleaning glass all day, looking for nicks and ticks in the glass... I worked as a waitress, and also as a sewer in a factory... then had to come home and work ( dinner, house cleaning, spending time with the kids) I lost a clerical job that could have lead somewhere due to me having to stay home with the sick children... babysitter didn't want to take them, cus they'd get the rest of the kids sick...
then there was the bout of head lice going around in the schools. What I am trying to say, you may have all these big plans now, but LIFE gets in the way, choices you make now may not be the correct choices for your future...
go back home if you can, you might have to eat crow, but admitting to your mistake and staying and trying to work things out with your parents is the best thing you can do for yourself right now...
Just read the other details to your story,
What about staying with other family, your dad, aunts?
Contacting a social worker to talk about your dilema may allow you to temporarily stay in a foster home, it is better than the streets, and a social worker can better help you with options that you may not realize are open to you... firstly, talk to your school councilor about it... get help now, before you make a big decision.
God Bless,
Shannon

I'm sorry for your situation. The best thing you can do is to go to the authorities, and tell them what is happening. If you truly want to be emanciapated, then the courts will need documentation why you want to be free from your parents. Explain the situation to a grandparent, aunt, or somebody close to you, and hopefully they will be there for you, and may even take you in. DHS will take anomyous calls I think. My advice, don't try to do things on your own, like running away. You still have several years that you need somebody's guidance (even in a foster care setting would be better than the streets.) You have your whole life to learn how to be on your own, why start now?

im not sure but i think the person aiding a runaway might get into more trouble than the actual runaway. youll just get returned home to the reason(s) you probably ran away for in the beginning. i think youll just have to answer questions the police asks. although at 16 i dont suggest anybody go out ond runaway.

i really do not know the legal part of it...but really i would not want to keep someone away from there parents...course i do not know all the circumstances either...a lot depends on how old they are...why are they running away...your age and a lot of things...so sorry i just do not know how to answer this...and i just read the part about 16...i think 16 is to young and she or he would probably be sent back home or if the parents wanted they would be put in juvenile authorities

only way to become an emancipated minor is through the courts... if you can take care of yourself, good luck... it's a cold cruel world out there... teens dissappear every day only to turn up working a street corner trading sex for drugs because someone they trusted got them hooked then turned them out. go home and grow up... have a childhood while you can because before you know it it's gone... also, if your parents beat you, go to the police...

Bon Jovi - Runaway BA: Yeah, it kind of feels they might constantly quit at my condo on their means and I might speak them out of it. Maybe that is why they stopped by way of. I ran away while I was once in top college. I bumped into my first-rate (woman) pal whilst I was once simply escaping the seize of the vice most important. I desire I hadn't, in view that she concerned such a lot approximately me. BA2: I don't have any proposal. Some of them put up it on thier profile

Runnaways who aren't escaping from domestic abuse are guilty of hate crimes against their parents in my opinion.
