When I say negative things about surveillance cameras in public or the government expanding its right to monitor us on the internet, I get the same response from a lot of people. "If you're not doing anything wrong why would you care?" or "I have nothing to hide."

I have nothing to hide either. I am not against these things because I am trying to protect criminals. I am against them because they're wrong. This is susposed to be a free country. The governemnt should trust its citizenry enough that it doesn't need to monitor its every action.

With the speed that technology is advancing, I don't think people are aware of how quickly things will change. Soon it will be possible to track where a person is at all times, very easily, every manufactured item will have tracking chips in them. Insurance companies will convince their customers to have chips implanted in their arms.

Will these things help fight crime? Perhaps for a while. Until the criminals find ways to work around them.

Soon it will be only the law abiding people who have to worry about being monitored all the time. The technology will be used for social engineering. Conservatives are willing to fight to the death to protect their right to bear arms. Why not this? The purpose of the right to bear arms is to ensure that the people have the ability to fight armed rebellions against the government if it becomes necessary. Monitoring technology will remove this ability. Where are on a pearilous road. Don't listen to the radio talk show hosts. Stand up for yourself. Think for yourself.

You are correct. It violates the Constitutional amendment against unreasonable search and seizure. Of course, we pay no attention to the Constitution anymore.

It's blatantly unconstitutional. Criminals will find new ways around the measures, especially organised and serious crime groups. But regular people will have their privacy invaded. I wonder if political and religious thinking will be a factor in this new monitoring.

I agree with part of what you say. surveillance in public areas to catch speeders or running a yellow9w light. I don't have a problem with surveillance on the Internet. It is to easy for terrorist to coordinate using the net.

If you are in public, you have no reasonable expectation that you won't be observed. What makes you think you are being monitored on the internet? It amazes me that people can rant about govt spying on them on the internet ON THE INTERNET. If they are really so paranoid about govt spying, why do they feel comfortable posting their rants on public forums?
