Totally, but only in upper middle class and wealthy families.

It is caused by political correctness. Too many people preaching about not spanking their kids. My kids got their butts smacked and they have turned out to be good kids. It isn't abuse its discipline. More than 2 cracks is too much but sometimes you need to get their attention. A timeout doesn't work because its just a break in the action. I have friends that don't believe in spanking and their kids are the worst in public and talk back to their parents more than most.

I definitely agree. There are also other ways of discipline and parent/child relationships that I just can't understand.
What freaks me out is that I've seen some parents suddenly breaking down or exploding in anger towards their kids. Trying to negotiate with a toddler?? No way.

Maybe your just too strict with your kids. Lighten up kids now days enjoy life. Back then they didn't because nobody had nothing. Kids aren't spoiled they are very well loved. I am a mom myself and I think buying things for my 2 year old is fun. I don't mean to in your words "SPOIL" her, but I feel she deserves things I never had. And that is why parents are like that now days. Maybe you should lay back and relax and let your children have a fun life too.

Hell Yes!!!! I cant stand parents who let there kids run all over a store or stand up and turn around and stare at you during dinner at a restaurant or who are always saying "Just wait till we get home" or "Wait till I tell dad"..give me a freaking break! And then they want to complain when the child gets older and is abusive and disrespectful...drrrrrrr

MOS DEF!! Kids are bad as hell! I disagree with the person who said that it's a common problem with upper class and whatnot- I have a broke a** homegirl with no job or baby daddy who has a lil bad 3-year old.... and he runs around wild like he doesn't have to answer to anyone.

I think that's too general to give a yes / no answer. Sure lots of parents do that, but there are plenty who don't.
I also think that sometimes, kids turn out a certain way despite all their parents do for them.

Oh yes. Remember when they use to let parents burn the brats with cigarettes? Oh, the good ole days.
