and astonishment but if a woman is doing it alone people dont even batter an eye lid. Dont you think its a bit insulting to men because its implying that your surprised they are capable of such a task.

I do not find it any more impressive. I think every single parent deserves praise

Women have the "maternal instinct" and it is expected that women in general will stick by their kids no matter what. It is percieved normal for a woman to be left with the kids in the case of a split, as that's the mother's role. It's much less common for a father to be in the position to raise the children alone, but yes some men can do a brillient job. I think people heap praise because it's lovely to see a man devote his life to bringing up his kids which is an emotional job rather than being career orientated. It's neither a right or a wrong perception, it's just the way society has changed.

Society sees women to do the child rearing as normal, but when a man does, it is surprising and full of praise. Society is used to seeing a man abuse a wife but not a wife abusing a husband. We are all tuned to seeing women with all the soft qualities and the man to have all the hard qualities, like discipline, control and command. Now to watch a man with soft skills is surpirsing. Another thing is we associate a man will less sexual control, women are expected to accept widowhood but a man is accepted to marry again (mostly in the East) to see a man dutifully caring for the kids is astonishing.
How men feel it???? A research study can be a good insight. You are full of praise because you respect men who are comfortable of switching roles with ease. This man will respect women thats for sure, because he understands how hard it is to bring up kids single handedly. Besides he must love the kids a lot.

mostly because men are full of life and really don't think about settling down to raise children it's mostly mothers who make that sacrifice. but it takes a real man to own up to a responsibility of actually caring for the child. It's hard on me being a single parent and I'm a woman and I commend any man who takes that challenge alone. He's a wonderful person and the child is lucky to have a Daddy like that to look up to

Its the way society is, I think both men and women deserve praise for raising kids alone, it's not an easy job.

It's the same way when is comes to how many partners men and women have...men get a pat on the back and women get called sluts.

Things need to change.

It is not that we imply they aren't capable.... they do it with no maternal instincts... Women are all taught to be maternal from the time they are children ... look at the games girls play ..
the boys are rough and tough and building things and destroying them...
Don't get me wrong, women who raise their children on their own deserve lots of praise... it is not an easy job, especially with boy children..
Because the male role as a single parent isn't really recognized as a "normal" situation, there is a stigma attached to it.

I think that on an instinctive basis, women are attracted to men who would be good fathers. There's no better way for a guy to prove that he's a good father than to be raising kids on his own. So the women think he's a good mate and therefore the praise... I don't think that guys praise another guy so much for raising his kids. Unless they're thinking, Damn! I'm glad that's not me! Little rugrats are a pain in the ***!

Because in today's society, women are use to men having kids and leaving. It's like diamonds, they are a rare comodity so they are valuable, single men raising their children, are a rare comdity so they are praised. Hey, I'm with you, they should be praised. There are too many men out there who ditch their kids or don't want anything to do with them. The father of my daughter isn't worth half a piece of $*&^. He was willing to sign off his parental rights to his daughter because I wouldn't get back with him. My fiancee was right there ready to adopt her. That was his loss, not my daughter's. I give the highest respect and credit to all the fathers who are doing it on their own. The world needs more REAL MEN like that to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their children.

It probaly is insulting but the reason is because in our society it is unusual for a man to be bringing up children on his own because childcare is typically a womans job society isnt ready to accept that the times are changing

We are super-women...they are men....we raise the family...balance the bills....work full-time....cook clean pta soccer ballet shop ....society sees us as able to do it all...but in reality we are working just as hard as the single dad to raise their family......AND...they should bat an eye-lid for how hard we women work to raise a family alone....come one...we praise the men for raising alone..but not the women?....it should be insulting that they get praise for something women have been doing for YEARS

Because until recently, that wasn't considered a "traditional" role for a man to have. Most people have this stereotype of men being the breadwinners, not the caretakers, while other stereotypes make men out to be nothing but commitmentphobic party animals who are after nothing but a good time.
