The U.S. is just in the wrong place. The cold air from Canada clashes with the warm air from the Gulf of Mexico. This collision causes the air masses to mix. Basically, the cold air causes the warm air to rise, since the cold air is heavier than warm. This turbulence between these air masses causes them to spin around each other, thus creating the rotation of a tornado. A lot do occur in super cell thunderstorms or hurricanes, due to the violence of the air masses colliding and the energy created from within these storms. I only know the basics and cannot tell you specifics, so here are some websites that can probably help you more.

Well its quite a natures way. The thing is that if you look at their path and where they come from (mostly from South Africa because the hot air on the ground is sent up by the mountains into the cold air creating tornadoes one after another), its quite just a coincidense. Not all from S.A. but thats where Katrina came from. If they all were to make it to USA, and not fail in their path, the coastal lands would be pretty much doomed by now.

You know really I don't know but that is so true! I lived in Missouri and we always had a tornado some where!!! I was in 2 and my grandma was in like 4! It must have something to do with the way the land and air currents collide or something.
