what is the best ski/snowboard rack i should consider getting? ( i have an suv, if that makes a difference.)

Thule or Yakima... no doubt about it. If you're gonna spend the kind of money it costs to buy a rack, I would advise you to go with one of those two brands.

If the SUV already has a luggage rack, you should consider getting the attachments for that rack from the car dealer.
Otherwise, look for a thule or yakima. Expensive, but worth it. Less expensive ones are available from Swagman, but not as tough.

I have a Yakima ski box.
I used to have just the top rack, but I like the box because I can put everything else up there too.
Thule is good also. I think the Yakima was a little cheaper.
