That is the limitation of a mind that can only store and analyse just the things it could perceive through sense organs.
For example, a small group who lived in an island cut off from the rest of the world, no communication, and if a boy of that place is asked to wish for something, he can only think of a very enlarged version of just what he saw during his life time on that island.. ! He cannot think of Internet or robots to ask for !

I think because people tend to believe that their lives could be better in some way Few people are totally satified with what they have/are. It is about idealism - those who look back and regret past losses or missed chances idealise them as being the one thing that would have made their current, unsatisfactory life, perfect. It's very sad because we can never know what would have happened, or whether it could have improved our current lot, and this kind of "retrospective" dreaming can get in the way of our appreciation of what is good now.

When you make a desicion between 2 things or more,youre either happy with the result or youre not..if youre happy then you may not want what you could of had..be it people ,objects,or chosen path...
