I honestly don't think that an African country will ever win the world cup. I am African myself and I come from Nigeria. I support Nigeria during the world cup and always hope that they will win. I know that this hope is empty though because African countries don't have all the money and resources that European and American countries do. Ghana has a pretty good football team, probably the best in Africa but I don't think that an African country will ever win the world cup. It would be nice if they did but I.m not going to hold my breath.

The World Cup is a huge tournament involving over 200 countries around the world. The "World Cup Finals" are what we see on TV in Brazil in 2014. However, the whole tournament spans over the 4 years preceding the finals. So yes, it makes sense to call it the "World Cup." Each country can participate in the tournament, but each country does not have an equal shot. Each confederation only has so many spots in the finals, so even if CONCACAF had the 32 best teams in the world only 3.5 of them would make it to the finals. The 0.5 being a play-off with another team from CONMEBOL. And besides, there is a lot of seeding and rounds going on within the prelims, it can hardly be called an equal shot, especially when a team like Ghana needs to play only 8 matches to qualify for the finals, whereas a team like Palestine could potentially play 22 matches to qualify for the finals. And for the record, besides baseball, I have not heard any of the American sports leagues call themselves "World Champions" for a long time. American Football stopped that when the current NFL was formed and the Super Bowl created. MLB is the only exception to that, since their final competition is the "World Series." Don't know why, that's just what they call it. Maybe because there are so many people of different nationalities playing? Not sure. NFL - Super Bowl Champions NBA - NBA Champions NHL - Stanley Cup Champions MLS - MLS Cup Champions The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have more NBA Championships together than the rest of the NBA combined. According to your logic we should call the finals the "Lakers/Celtics Game" instead of the "NBA Finals." I think I've said enough.

I would think it would happen eventually. Might take another decade or so for the teams to mature enough to reach that level though anything is possible and an African team might get hot at the next world cup and step up and win the cup.

They might also need to look at their qualification process as there are no provisions for two good teams from the same qualification group making it to the World Cup so some good teams can be left at home.

I doubt it.

It's been said that they will for years but they don't seem to be producing enough players at the same time to challenge European and South American teams.

I would actualy like to see it happen, despite being English, but think Scotland have a better chance ............ and that's about zero
