This is a difficult question, Ive known a few people that cut them selves and I have yet to understand why. But then... why do we have other self destructive habits?
Can you fix them? They have to want help... you maybe able to encourage them to seek help.
Should you tell someone in authority a parent, teacher.. etc...? If they are to a point where their life is serious danger... YES please tell someone. A true Friend will take a stand even if its not popular, out of love. They may get mad... but they will come to know you did it for there benefit.. because you care.
I have a sign on my desk that reads "Prayer changes things" Pray does work...YES... even if your not the best a communicating in pray, just give it to God.

My daughter has a friend that did the same thing. Her reasoning was she wanted to stop feeling the hurt she had inside. She had to be watched by her family and friends at all times, and went to counseling. She eventually stopped and got back her self esteem and self worth! You do what ever it takes, it can be serious but yet some kids do it for kicks, so Ive been told. Just be there as a friend.

Im going through the same thing right now. The advice that i could give you that im using myself is tell them how much you care for them. That if they go to cut themselves to call you and you'll help them through it. They have to be willing to stop, they cant just up and rely on you to do all the work because you cant solve your problem all in one night. its a very gradual and fragile thing to deal with, especially if they turn suicidal. You just have to really watch out for them, and let them know you care. :) Good luck!

Do you've a school counselor you are able to communicate over with about this. Any information you furnish to a counselor is meant to be personal until eventually one is in probability of causing damage to self or others. Your buddy certainly feels like she needs instantaneous intervention, really with the alcohol abuse. the position are her moms and dads? besides, the in difficulty-free words element you would possibly want to do is communicate over consisting of her and verify out to get her to communicate over with someone. If she refuses then i might want to communicate over with an man or woman that you'll believe to interfere - which i might want to imagine a school counselor might want to be of help. If she maintains in this route issues can definetly worsen and turn into an collection of issues. You sound like an outstanding buddy yet do not attempt to take finished duty for paying for her help. I strongly inspire you to communicate over with someone who can probable help her.

Stay away from people who choose destructive behavior unless you yourself are strong enough to be a beacon of light.
