I always choose a best answer even if they are all crap.

Sometimes when I am asking for an opinion, I leave the best answer open to a vote because there really is no best answer. I am only interested in how others feel about an issue and I don't see how an opinion can be correct or incorrect. Also the number of votes for a particular answer also tells you something about how people feel on the whole. That's why I sometimes do it, anyway. Sometimes I don't pick the best answer when I ask a question because I really don't know the best answer. I am simply looking for a jumping off point to do some research. And then there are times when I just simply can't decide a best answer.

Maybe if it's a question on a specific subject, none of the answers are really what you're looking for. Even if that's the case, I always pick the best of what's there. If people can be bothered to take the time to anwer your question (other than the pea-brains who only answer with something stupid to get 2 points) then the questioner should have the good manners to pick an answer!

They don't pick best answers for one of the following:
1. There are so many good answers that its hard to pick the best one.
2. They forgot to extend the days left to answer so it went up for voting.
3.There were all bad answers so there was no way that they could pick a best answer.

Hope I helped!

I blame the MTV culture - people don't have an attention span anymore.
People post a question, but don't bother to check the replies, they are already off doing something else.
I find it a bit sad that it only takes a couple of votes to get best answer, so I make sure I use my total voting allowance - time to give the real best answers the title!

I cannot answer for others, since I pick my best answers. Sometimes, it is better when the readers select the best answer on opinion questions. Many times the asker seems to pick the person who agrees with him/her.

I know I was thinking the exact same thing! I always rate my answers, perhaps yahoo should start deducting points from users who fail to rate best answer in a certain time period!?

Sometimes there isn't any answer that deserves to be the best, and askers are too lazy to cick the button saying that all the answers are rubbish.

because they want to know the answer for themselves, and think that other people should be allowed to choose the answer that they think is best.
