For my birthday 2 years ago,my live-in boyfriend gave me a signed, limited-edition painting by my favorite artist. When he gave it too me he said, its not just yours, its ours. Its never been framed and sits behind the couch where it won't get ruined. I'm in the process of moving out. Do I take the painting with me, without asking him about it? If I ask him, how do I ask him? It was a gift to me, so isn't it technically mine anyway?

Since it was a gift, I would just take it with me. He must not be too worried about it himself or he would have had it hanging up by now. Don't feel guilty-it's yours and you should have it. Good luck to you.

If it was a gift, it's yours. Take it without asking...obviously if it's been behind the couch, it really didn't mean much to him...so you need to enjoy it.
