Their first bandname was His Infernal Majesty (chosen spontaniously, almost as a joke). But then, as their popularity were rising; a change of name was required, for numerous reasons:
The finnish people were having difficulties with pronouncing the name.
The band name was - after all, never actually serious.
***The band started getting unwanted occult associations.
And consequently they changed the name to HIM.
Though some people - mainly American fans and American journalists, writes "H.I.M."; this is wrong.

No way I'm really into this band I've done so many research on them they are not satanic or atheist what they do is for getting more attention just like a publicity
They just wanna look creepy that's all .they always leave their fans with alot of unanswered question with their ambiguous sexual orientation and religion don't take them seriously just listen to the songs and enjoy.

I don't think so. I've never heard any Satanic references in their songs. However, since they are "metal", some people will say that they are Satanic. Don't believe the hype.
