The song Mad world was original performed by Tears for Fears in the 80's......there was a remake done in the year 2000 for the movie soundtrack "Donnie Darko", which was done by a singer/songwriter, Gary Jules.

I think you may mean "Mad World" & both Tears for Fears & Gary Jules have done the song. Gary Jules' is my favorite.

Tears for Fears sung it originally in the early eighties then in 2003, Gary Jules sung a cover version of it and it was Christmas number one in the UK the same year.
