This is the ultimate reference to a ghostly encounter, I was twelve yrs old, I was playing with a Ouija board with my sister. I asked what's the name of the man that I'm going to marry? and it pointed at H. R. then I asked when I'm going to die and it said after "the baby boy is born and big " .I married a H.R. and after two girls and a boy that is now nine I was diagnosed with cancer stage IV. It figures it was right the stupid board.

To call what happened a ghost story might be overstating the case, but it happened some 38 years ago [oh, drat, I've just officially identified myself as a crone :-)], when I was in high school.

We were moving to a new house that was located around the corner from where we were living, and my mother was the kind of person who simply could not move into a place until she'd cleaned it to her satisfaction. Since it was summer, my younger brothers (twins) and I were out of school.

Mom had gone over to the new place to clean the kitchen. My brothers had gone to the playground at their school two blocks away, and I for some reason was at the old house and set out to walk the short distance to the new one.

When I walked in the front door, I noticed my best bud was already there, standing in the doorway between the kitchen and the dining room, talking to my mother. I left the front door open (it was summer, after all) and joined my friend.

Before I'd said a word, the three of us plainly heard the front door slam and the sound of footsteps running across the living room, up the front stairs (the house was, at the time, about 85 years old, and had a stairway in the living room and another that came down to the kitchen), and into the back bedroom.

Mom was cleaning the oven, and the way the kitchen was set up there was a bar behind the sink--the house had been renovated at some time in its history, and a wall between the original kitchen and what I suppose was a breakfast room had been removed and a bar for snacking had been put in--and her line of sight was blocked, so she hadn't seen me. She at once yelled for me to come downstairs and quit fooling around because we had a lot to do.

My friend and I looked at each other, then at the living room (the house's floorplan was of the architectural style known as 'railroad flats'--the living room led into the dining room and the dining room into the kitchen--seemed to be the rage in the Northeast part of the country around the turn of the last century), where the front door still stood wide open.

She spoke up then and told my mother I'd been standing right beside her and that the door we heard slam was still open. At this, my mother stood up, saw me, and asked if one of the twins had come in. I said no, and besides, the door was open.

So, the three of us went upstairs and found, of course, no one.

So don't ask me what happened. I'm still stumped.

Sure- I used to live in this subdivision of really old victorian houses- the one I rented was built in 1890 and it was a beautiful house, it had 4 fireplaces, cathedral ceilings etc.. anyway, there was always a really strange feeling in the bathroom. It felt as if you were being watched, you really got a chill- and a paranoid feeling when you went to the bathroom. Anyone who came over would say the same thing. There were a couple of times at night I saw (or thought I saw) a shadow coming out of the bathroom, and footsteps on the carpet. When I did a double take, there was nothing there. The house also had a huge attic window that overlooked the front lawn, and coming home late at night before I thought I saw the shadow up there in the attic window too. I have no idea why, but something made me feel like the presence was female. That's all I know. I lived there for 2 years and it was a little freaky at times, but nothing to make me move out or anything. ( I live in North Carolina)

In the 1980's I worked in an amusement park Theater in Northern California..

We did the "Bug's Bunny" character shows... 6 shows a day, 6 days a week with a dozen dancers and about 8 of those big furry character costumes with huge feet.

Each night, the dressers would haul the costumes and the feet liners to headquarters to have them cleaned, and as a stage hand, I would help. We would line up the character feet in a NICE line near the dressing room, leave, and lock the theater.

Now there were only 4 keysto the building: Stage Manager, Shows Department Head, Costumers, and Security...

Often, we would arrive in the morning and find the character feet ALL over the building !! We reported this to security... they could never find any indication of anyone entering the building.

We would also have strange reports from ushers who would see two smalls kids (about 7-10 yrs old) in the theater during rehearsals, but when they went to ask the pair of kids to leave... they were not there !!

I had seen this myself, having SEEN the kids while running a follow-spot light from the booth, directed an usher to remove them via headset...

After about a year of this, we decided we had "ghooooosts"... I did some research (pre-internet)... after DAYS of sorting through microfilm of the local paper, I found that the land had been farmland and a dairy... and that in 1895, two children had died after falling in a well... located RIGHT UNDER OUR THEATER !!

We called in a psychic/paranormal woman, gave her NO info other than the movement of the feet, and sightings of apparitions... she sighed, moaned, and touched the other side... and told about two kids of the correct NAMES !!

As best as I know, those two are still there...

I have lots of them but I'll tell you one right now! In my old apartment i saw a man. I was laying in bed one evening wide awake & I saw a man walk from my closet over to my side of the bed. He stood there for what seemed like forever & stared at me. A friend of mine lived in the same building on the 3rd floor & she saw the same man. He would turn off radios & rock the baby carriage. It was crazy. I always felt like I was being watched when I was in the building. Oh to give you a little history the apartment building used to be a motel with a bar downstairs. There was a fire one night & one man died there as a result. I think this is why he is dressed in all black. If you want more stories email me!

Okay here is one for you. We lived in this house in Indianna when we were little. My mom and all of us used to hear a thump, thump, thump on the stairs at night when we would go to sleep. Well my mother went to the library and did some research and found out that the editor of the paper in the 1902 era owned this house and he had a toddler son who would chase his ball down the stairs . Well one early evening he was chasing the ball and he slipped and broke his neck and he died instantly there on the steps. Tragic and spooky at the same time. Also the ppl that moved in after us did not stay in the house but like 3 mos . They said it was haunted. We laugh about that alot. God bless.

I have one...

I bought my grandfather's house from "the family" a year and a half ago. Both my grandfather and my great grandmother passed away in this house. For reasons I won't go into, my husband and I have decided not to make the master bedroom(my grandfather's) room our bedroom just yet. Therefore, we sleep in my great-grandmother's room. Everytime I come down with a horrible cold or get sick in any way, when I'm in bed and alone in the house, someone(or thing) will open our bedroom door for about 30 seconds and then shut it. I strongly believe this is my grandfather checking on me as he did my great grandmother several years ago...

Also, have you ever heard of the Gurden light in Arkansas? Do a search on it...it's pretty spooky. My husband and I went down there by ourselves once to try to see it but I freaked and we ended up leaving...

i remember this like itwas yesterday, i was 3 years old, and i wouldnt go to bed and then this lady appeared in my rocking chair just an old lady, and i started screaming WHITE LADY WHITE LADY!! my mom came in and turned on the light and the chair was just rocking back and forth, she was terrified and i got to sleep in her room until we moved into our new house a year later. Both of us will never forget. and go figure "the white lady" is considered the goddess of self destructionand terror. . And thats pretty much suited my life. Also, the house me and my husband live in now, my 2 yr old son had our digital cam and took some random pictures and i was flipping thru them and a man with a cowboy hat and his dog were floating above my tv, no joke. Its the freakiest thing ever, but i just live with it, i belive they exist and so do our spirit guides. so, i just ask them to send money. We live in an older house built in the 40's, so i brought up an old work bench from the original owners, upstairs, and these black shadows flew right off of them. No one belives me but, lol i saw what i saw and im not crazy.

got a few for ya:
one house I used to live in in Kansas had furniture it it when I moved in. I moved it all out and out it in the garage. One night I got out of the shower and was at the door of the bathroom when I heard a weird noise, turned around and the toilet paper was flinging itself all over the bathroom. I touched the roll to stop it and it was cold. I found out( via the ouija board) the old lady that lived there before was mad because I removed her rocking chair. I put it back and the weird stuff quit. Kept the chair for a few years before finally getting rid of it.

at another house that my mom lived in in Kansas, my sister and I saw a white figure in her bedroom door for just a split instant. when we looked up again, it was gone. It was weird that we both looked up at the same time and at the door because of a noise.

at one of the houses I lived in here in missouri, I had a lot of noises, doors opening/shutting, windows slamming shut (even tho they were blocked open) saw a figure pass by the back window of an elderly man, and when I looked outside, no one in the yard. had a bag of potato chips fly into my daughter's room from the kitchen. Her room was right off the kitchen and I heard the chip bag hit the floor from on top of the fridge, and my daughter came out and said that it flew into her room. sure enough it was in her room, a good 10 feet away from the fridge. needless to say, she didn't go to sleep very well, she was only 5, and flying chips freaked her out. had a glass in the bathroom that fell and broke, but actually it looked like some one picked it up off the sink and deliberatly dropped it on the floor. the biggest noise I heard in that house was from the kitchen, it sounded like someone had picked up my entire stack of dishes and threw them on the floor. I ran to the kitchen and nothing was out of sort, dishes were fine. That particular day had been very active on windows and doors also.

The house I am in now, still in Missouri and same town five blocks away fromn the first house, has also had activity. It is a 5 year old house, so I believe the land holds the memeory. My kids have heard a baby crying and a lady saying "sh". I have a music box up on the top of the cabinets in th kitchen, where you'd have to get on a chair and reach for it, started to play one day. there has also been various noises,& doors shutting. A door in the basement slammed shut by itself and when I went down there see what was up, because the kids were playing in that room, they came out freaked because it slammed shut. another time with that door, I had it shut and was in the other room doing laundry when it sounded like something ran at the door and hit it full force. I didn't even want to know what was on the other side then!!

the thing is, it's not just me hearing these noises or seeing the figures, so I know I am not completely crazy!!

I talked to one, i was in our house alone and scared waiting for my family to return from a school activity. I was upstairs when I heard the door open. Someone, a woman called out, she asked me if I was okay. I felt better after she left, never saw her, just heard her. She told me to tell my grandmother that she had stopped by. I had never met this woman, but when I told my grandmother she went white as a sheet, then told me the woman had died a few years back. Howzat?
