If I WAS an apple, I would imagine I'd be an apple until I fell off my tree and rotted or got eaten, in which case I would no longer be a fruit at all.

Well, if i was an apple and i got eaten by a worm, and that worm then helped fertilise an orange tree then i will be an orange.
