Technically, Mary Shelley never named the monster. He was just always called "The Monster." Hollywood audiences dubbed the monster Frankenstien through the years.

The first Frankenstein movie, released in 1931, had Colin Clive playing Dr. Henry Frankenstein and Boris Karloff as The Monster.
