Maternal is your mother's mother. Paternal is your father;s mother. I know it's a bit confusing, I'm a nurse and use to carry a tiny notebook in my pocket for some of the questions on admission forms where difficult to keep straight, and I wanted to make sure I shared the correct information with my patients.
