Of course they are above the law.
Locally, an officer from another county came to make an arrest. (Illegal as he had no jurisdiction) The man ran into the woods. The officer chased him and shot him in the back. While waiting on his 'murder trial' he was allowed to remain on the job. At his trial he claimed self defense and that he feared for his life. (The victim was unarmed and if he was so scared why did he chase into the woods after him? This was at night) He was found not guilty.
You tell me. Was he above the law?

The cops where I live do not fit in to your mold of generalization and I do not think that most do. There are several instances of misconduct that were dealt with and the officers were punished from suspension with pay to termination. So they are not above the law. as for being cool..........
......I think my husband is awesome and I am proud of him everyday he goes to work, our boys defiantly think he is cool and I love that they ask him how many bad guys he caught in the day and not leave out any details. They think he is a hero and I love that about him and them.
hey to you all that think that the $$$$ for the tickets go to the cops, you are wrong.......it goes to the state, they just don't up the amout of tickets they write just to get a new car or because they need a raise or new equiptment. If that was the case then a lot more folks would be getting tickets, my husband tack vest should have been replaced in 1999 and it has yet to be done, if it were only that simple to write an extra ticket or so to make it up. If they seize property then it goes to auction after the balance on the item is paid (mortgage or car loan) and the left over money goes to the department.

There are some cops on power trips, but I think to make it a majority is unfair... people tend to forget that cops CHOOSE a career that risks their life for our safety... any cop could die just doing a traffic stop... people should really stop and think before they make unfair accusations... on the other hand I do think things that police do is not fair.. I do think that they make "speed traps" not for the safety and concern of citizens, but to make money for them for new cars, raises, and things like that.... also cops should get privileges that the common citizen doesn't .. but they should obey laws .. like speed limits... I saw a motorcycle cop one day speeding down the interstate, swerving in and out of lanes, to get by everyone... didn't think much about, thought maybe he was a call or something, ,up the road I saw him pull off to the side and whip out a radar gun... I see cops everyday speeding... in a different county to the county of their jurisdiction.. so you know they aren't on a call, they are just going to work.. and I mean speeding.. going at least 80 if not more in a 55.. it's bad sometimes... I do think in cases like that they do need to obey the speed limits and other traffic control devices...

Hehehe...
I am sure most cops don't think they're above the law. In fact, many don't think at all.
I foretell many will post that you are a criminal, or were arrested and are just resentful.
With their muscle headed mentalities, many do think they're above the law. How so? If a citizen breaks the law, they take action. When they abuse power, they cover for each other.
That is why it is always important to educate citizens about their civil rights, and their right to file a grievance against a cop to request a formal inquiry about his behavior.

Not all cops think they are cool. And most do not think they are above the law.
Most cops I've been around have been pretty chill.

Law enforcement officers are indoctrinated to be suspicious of everyone. Until one gets to know you, s/he will seem aloof. It is a self-perseverance thing. Don't be offended.

Because some of them are rental cops and take their jobs seriously so that they trade in their flashlight for a cap gun.
