She keeps nagging me to go. I do not want to as 1> I will make myself look like a prat and 2) People won't want to dance with me as they will end up with sore feet from when I stand on them. Is Salsa for me??

OHHHHH SHERLOCK,

You are lovely to even consider it. Go with her it will be FANTASTIC. I would love my husband to come BELLY DANCING with me, errrrrrrrrrrrrm he has a lovely belly, but he wont come with me. I think he doesn't want to make the rest of us feel inadequate as he has more jelly belly than any of us. However salsa dancing has loads of men attending, its very cool and sexy. Men who can salsa are babe magnets you know. And your girlfriend will be proud to have a 6ft 2 salsa dancing man on HER arm, she will be the envy of the class. DO IT!!!!!

*Everyone* can dance. Not so long ago, everyone used to dance. We loved to dance so much that we were called 'the dancing English'. It's sad that people now have the idea that dancing is something only a few people can do, when it's one of the most natural things in the world.

Your height isn't a problem unless you make it so. As long as you don't try to crouch down and seem smaller, it won't get in the way. If you don't believe me, have a look at some tango videos - you'll find Huge fat men dancing perfectly comfortably with tiny women, and tiny men dancing happily with incredibly tall women. And tango is danced cheek to cheek! So if you can do it in tango, you can definitely do it in salsa.

I say give it a go. Try it for at least a few sessions before you rule it out. It may be that it's genuinely not for you, in which case you can stop. But give it a fair try first.

On the other hand, if you do decide it's not for you, then it's not fair for your gf to keep nagging. People just like different things.

Did you ever hear that tall people have a natural advantage in Ballroom and Latin? If you look at competing couples, taller couples have better scores. But I'm getting ahead of myself... Anyway, just keep in mind those people were begginers at some point.

I'd give it a try if I were you. If you step on her feet a couple of times accidentally just apologize, say you're sorry. It happens all the time when people learn to dance, regardless of their size. Trust me, it's all the same - big guy or small guy stepping on your toes. Followers actually get pretty good at escaping :-)

People will want to dance with you if you are having fun and if you look like you are having fun. They won't want to dance wiht you if you look like you are being tortured.

Salsa is for everyone who sincerely wants to learn. It's not for those who come up with excuses why they can't learn. If you really don't want to do it, explain to your GF that you really love her but you don't want to dance. However, understand that you will disapoint her by not even giving it a try.

Your height and your shoe size won't prevent you from getting a lot out of salsa classes with your g/f.

If she keeps "nagging you" to go, you should go. It clearly means a lot to her. No one is born knowing how to salsa, hence the classes. There will be others there who feel they are bound to make prats of themselves, (those who think they are too old, too fat, or too something else or not something enough,) but even if you two don't end up winning medals for Latin American at national level, you will have fun and a bit of a laugh and, most importantly, be doing something together - gotta be good for your relationship.

Go. Enjoy. You may have hidden talents and you may surprise yourself!

YES! Anyone can learn to dance. My Salsa dance partner (and fellow teacher) is 6ft tall and weighs about 17 stone (we look like little and large, with me only being 5ft 6 and 9 stone!), but is amazingly light on his feet.

The main thing is to go along willing to learn and have fun, everyone finds it hard to begin with, I always tell my beginners that it takes about 8 - 10 lessons before you feel really comfortable with the basic step, and after that everything will fall into place.

Believe me, everyone gets their feet stepped on at some stage, I've been stood on and have stood on plenty of toes myself! The main thing is to say you're sorry then laugh it off. Salsa is all about fun, and if you've got your girlfriend with you you will have a great time!

Hope you enjoy it x.

Most definately.1. you could have alot of fun.2. with practice you probably improve. 3. Don't let your feet size hinder you from having fun. I have very small feet and they get step on all the time I live, laugh, and still had a blast so will she and bet you will too once you relax a just try to have fun. They are only other people what do care what they think. Be happy with what your girl thinks. And she'll think more of you for trying than not. Have fun!!!!

Go take salsa! You're not supoposed to be able to dance BEFORE you take the lessons. And who knows, maybe you'll learn something. Do your g/f a favour and learn to dance with her. It'll mean the world to her. And when you get good, you two can go salsa dancing at clubs and be the envy of everyone. I mean, the worst that can happen is you don't learn anything. You certainly can't get any worse from lessons! Go! and have fun!!

Go for it we did!

We had a laugh at our first lesson cause my fella has two left feet and kept going the wrong way but at the end of the lesson he gained his confidence and it was his idea to go back!

Everyone is in the same boat if you go to a beginners class and don't worry about how you will look, as already said in other answers, all shapes and sizes go - I'm only 4ft11" and my fella is 6ft so we are not the ideal looking pair, so look on the bright side and have fun...x

I think you should go -- you might enjoy it!

Even if you find that in the end, salsa is NOT for you... then at least you will have shown your girlfriend that you were willing to do something to make her happy, and in the end, that will be more important to her than whether or not you are a fine dancer.

Go for it ^_^

Absolutely, go, give it a try, make your girl friend happy.

You sound like my son, who described his dancing as looking "like a beached whale having a convulsion". He too is 6' 2" but his feet are a dainty size 13.

Just go there to have fun, you may find that you are not a bad dancer after all.
