I want to use dry ice in a bowl to give the drink a smoking affect for a halloween party. Is this safe to drink out of? Or is it just supposed to be for decoration

Perfectly safe. I'm a physcist and have used it for years in science and entertainment applications. I use it evey year for Halloween punch... and here's another tip - tonic water (not club soda!) will glow under black light. Tonic water based punch with dry ice in a black light room is super cool!

There's a chain of beverage stalls that sells drinks smoking with dry ice, so it's apparently safe. But they sell it in special containers so that no one gets hurt. In my opinion, it's no more harmful than drinking a can of soda, as long as no one ingests any solid particles. Maybe you can come up with a setup that will prevent anyone from getting whole chips. If you can't ensure everyone's safety, then just put the dry ice in a bowl or flask of colored water as a decoration. Don't serve it.

Yes, you can, and it will have the desired effect. You may want to tell everyone not to get their tongues too close to the dry ice, though. I hate it when the dry ice gets stuck to the tip of my tongue! Seriously, that's not usually a problem because after a short while water ice will start to form around the chunks of dry ice. Another side effect is that some of the water in your drink will freeze out, making the rest more concentrated. Keep that in mind.

undesirable concept- you may want to create a chemical reaction between the dry ice and the established ice because the established ice melts into water. i extremely imagine that with a number of luggage of widespread ice you'd be ok- dry ice is better extreme priced than procuring an better 4 or 5 luggage of widespread ice to shop your cooler crowned off all day.

I'm not sure that it wouldn't boil rather than smoke. I know that alcohol smokes, but it has a lower freezing point than water. Also, should anyone touch the dry ice, they could suffer from some freezing burns. If anyone were to swallow a small bit, it could cause significant freezing burns in the esophagus. I wouldn't try it.

it's fine unless anyone come in contact with the dry ice. it's cold enough to leave pretty nasty burns

You can and it WILL smoke and bubble. But it does seem to add a slightly funny (like freezer burn) taste to the beverage.

Sure you can...just don't touch or eat the dry ice.
