most of the time (unless you have a really high credit score) they will not approve you automatically for platinum. You need to start with a regular membership and after a while they will offer you to upgrade. Unless you know somebody that is an underwriter for American Express I don't think anybody can give you the exact criteria.

yes home owner ship will help, a good credit score is 800, but most folks on average have about 650 and that is pretty good as long as you have a good income.
