Try the heat from your hairdryer, whilst heating rub with a soft cloth, this should remove the residue and not leave any nasty marks, using substances especially oily ones could leave the door geasy and would become noticable when varnishing or painting at a later date

My wife swears by Skin-So-Soft as a remover of sticky stuff from surfaces you care about. Personally I prefer WD-40, but the former is less volitile and stinky than the latter.

'Sticky Stuff Remover' from either Betterware or Kleeneze. Fantastic stuff, loads of uses. Do not use Methylated spirits as this will take the colour away from the wood and you'll be left with an even bigger mark.

WD40 id usually good, spray alittle onto cloth and then lightly try to get the sticky stuff off.

furniture polish or try soaking it with lemon. But furniture polish is reallly good at removing sticky tape marks ive tried it.

Use a mild abrasive cream such as Jif and prepare to be amazed. It brings up UpVC as new as well. Be careful its addictive and you may well find yourself whitening the whole of your UpVC all round the house :)

use some mineral oil or baby oil. rub it on gently. it breaks down the adhesive and it good for the wood! I bet murphy's oil soap would work like a dream!
