Good question! I assume that Yahoo tells its advertisers how many of us are here entertaining each other, and how much time we spend here, and any other info they have - age, sex, etc. That way they can charge higher rates for advertising - those ads for male menstrual cramps, etc.
I think that's how it works.
How much money do they make? Check their stock reports.
