Some women have periods that last 7-10 days. It's not unusual.

Is it not normally this long??? Is it heavier than usual???

Normally women can have periods that last anywhere from 3 -10 days. But if you usually don't have your period for more than five days, you may want to see a doctor...just in case. There could possibly be something more than a period.

Just this time? Or is it longer than 5 days most of the time?

My guess, without knowing more, is that it might be hormone-related. Maybe it's just how your body works, or perhaps there's something going on that your gynecologist can help with. If it's a concern, definitely go see a doctor!

The typical woman bleeds for three to seven days at the beginning of each menstrual cycle.
Prolonged bleeding (metrorrhagia, also meno-metrorrhagia) no longer shows a clear interval pattern. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding refers to hormonally caused bleeding abnormalities, typically anovulation. All these bleeding abnormalities need medical attention; they may indicate hormone imbalances, uterine fibroids, or other problems. As pregnant patients may bleed, a pregnancy test forms part of the evaluation of abnormal bleeding.

some contraceptive methods are designed to regulate monthly bleeding. Because of this, they are often chosen by females who wish to regulate the frequency and length of their period, often for basic convenience and especially when such factors are irregular and problematic on their own. Hormonal contraception has also been shown to improve menstrual factors such as cramping, heavy bleeding, and other bothersome physical and emotional issues related to periods.
So, i think if your period is not longer than 7 days, it is still alright, but if it is longer than that, then u can see your doctor.

Everyone is different. I'm 34 and my periods have never dried up before the sixth day. My friend has periods that last four days. Another fiend of mine has periods that last anywhere between four to six days.

Depends...are you under stress? There can be many factors like weight gain, stress, work...etc. Somtimes your period is longer and heavier because you just miscarried. Alot of times that happens and no one even realizes it.
