Lets say, to an ITALIAN restaurant... this is actually my main question:
what food do you think may be appropriate for a ROMANTIC dinner date?

Part of it depends on what is available where you live. There are restaurants that do all fondue, in my opinion that is very romantic because of feeding each other these foods can be very erotic after dipping them take them off the skewers and do finger feeding. Italian is a good choice too.
A good alternate would be either a romantic picnic, either on the beach (again depends on your location), in your bedroom (my husband loves when I do surprise dinner picnics in the house especially the bedroom). You could also cook dinner together that can become very erotic and fun... messy too

Have a GREAT dinner!

Odd Question i-- if the decision has already been made to go to a restaurant----
If you go to a Restaurant (Italian or otherwise) the Restaurant will place a menu in front of you, and you and your date will choose from what's offered.
If you were cooking at home, what food is appropriate, would be a very likely question.
But as you pose the question, this is a decision you don't have to make. Your date will choose, and you will choose, and the most romantic result will then happen.

Something that doesn't require a lot of work. Like say crab leggs. You don't want it taking attention from you and your date. something simple were you can stop and talk and then resume with ease
