There are more than 3 countries in Europe.
However, if you are referring to the political powerhouses, then you have to include Russia, UK, France, and Germany.
Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Belarus, Austria, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Croatia,...are some other countries in Europe.

In my opinion no offence to anyone this is my personal fact the main country's of Europe obviously are starting with mine:
(Real Europe )-Spain, UK,Portugal, Italy, France, Amsterdam, Germany
then there is the new country that got lucky to get in including (unreal Europe xddd)-Poland Slovenia Lithuanian,Rumania etc. but in my consideration those aren't really proper Europeans. I don't consider them in the top list and never will
I'm not being rude or anything against anyone just my opinion

There are more than 3 countries in Europe. Europe does not have any "main" countries.

I assume you're talking about England, France, and Germany. They are the richest countries in Europe, and they have the largest populations.
But I wouldn't say that makes them the "main" countries.

Back to my university days (!) The foundation of the EU is membership of a single market - "free movement of people, goods & capital" and the advantages (reasons for joining) are largely based on this concept For example: (a) Movement of goods - Opportunity to exploit their comparative advantage in many industries and increase exports to “richer nations” in order for further economic development (b) Movement of capital - Potential for large inflows of foreign direct investment into accession countries (previous EU enlargement has seen a boost to FDI flows because of lower land & labour costs e.g. in Eastern European countries that joined) Then there are also EU programs which countries can obtain funds from (although should not be considered a main reason for joining ) - e.g. Common Agricultural Policy The main aims of joining the EU for the accession countries are to (a) Increase economic integration with Western Europe (b) Provide a catalyst to long term economic growth (c) Raise relative living standards closer to the EU average Hope this helps somewhat
