I agree, nicotene is virtually impossible to get off the walls. The other things, if you do choose to try scrubbing it, is that you have to cover every square inch of the entire wall, or the spots you've missed are going to stand out like a sore thumb.

It is more expensive, but much less work and headache to just re-paint. Put a couple primer coats underneath, and then your base coat overtop. An alkalyd paint will adhere better in the long run, but it's a lot more work and a lot more smell.

You can not clean nicotine off the wall

The gentleman that lives next door to me his wife passed away and was a very heavy smoker. He painted the walls with about 4 coats of Kilz and then regular paint. The nicotine bled through the first two coats.

try a mixture of vinegar and water. i know this takes nicoteen off plastic blinds, just test a small area to begin with and see how it does on the paint/wallpaper.

I vote for painting the whole place. I bought a condo that was owned by a smoker. Didn't realize it until it was painted, but the nicotine turns the white paint to yellowish which is not that noticeable until you paint over it and see the difference.

You gotta do the elbow grease anyway.

"Elbow grease" and any good wall cleaner will work. If the ceilings are tall, try using a sponge mop dipped in cleaner. It's time consuming the first time, but worth it. (I transformed 'walnut' paneling back to it's original light oak color once) The mop works good on ceilings too.

It doesn't always clean off. Wipe w/ cleanser (like 409 or simple green and water) if that doesn't take care of it, prime it (sometimes several coats are needed) w/ kiltz then paint.

Thunder Blast or Greased Lightening you can buy them both at Walmart. they will remove alot of stains, but, spray on and wipe off DO NOT LET IT SET or it might take off paint. Formula 409 will work also, but not as well.

Soot?

Just paint them. Use Home Depot's Behr, the best I have purchased, ever. Some are very easy to clean.

Mean Green from the dollar store! works wonderful. Try another product first , then redo with mean green and you will see how much the other product missed.
