Sure, it's two different things. Individual poems can be about a whole variety of things, so if someone asks what poems are about, I would think they mean one or two specific poems and their content. However, if someone asks you what poetry is about, first of all, that's a really subjective question. I mean there's no right answer. To me, poetry is about expressing yourself by creating art with the spoken word, taking everyday words and stringing them into configurations that lend a sort of music to what you're talking about.
