take a half hour going over your notes and books for each course...use an hour for your biology
try it this way

Seven subjects is a lot and no doubt it can seem daunting at first. I used to have a different file for each subject but make notes for each day in the same notebook with the date and subject at the top of the page then write the scribbled notes up in a more legible hand later. A really good tip that I found very, very helpful was, when making notes from textbooks to use in an assignment, to use a separate sheet for each book and put the author, date, title, pubisher etc at the top of each sheet with the page number the quotation or idea comes from. That way you don't have to constantly flick through books to re-discover the quote. Seems like a bit of a pain in the bum I know, but it saves zillions of time when it comes to writing essays and is invaluable when constructing your bibliography. Hope you get some more good ideas...don't panic, we've all been there! Good luck.

7 subjects is a hell of a lot to take on, what i'd do is have a lever arch file for each subject (presumably you wont have all 7 subjects on one day) and have dividers for each different module, or even teacher if thats handier. Keep on top of your notes by organsing them into the right sections. Keep dates in the corner of the page so that you know they are in order. My notes always tend to be scruffy from lectures so i rewrite them when i can. this way you get rid of the bits that aren't relevant too and they are nice and neat for when you need them most.
As for how often you should be studying that is up to you, but you need to take breaks into account at least every hour. a good ratio is an hour of work then 10 minutes break. if you do prefare to work in long blocks say 3 hours then give yourself half an hour, chill out and watch your favourite tv program.
Find out when is the best time for you to study. i'm more of a night person so prefare to work til later on at night rather than early mornings. make sure you are comfortable when studying and have good lighting too.
you need to give yourself specific times when to do which subject, biology is your most important but make sure you keep up with the others too, dont focus too much on one. When you get assignments dont leave it until a week before the deadline, if you can then get on with them straight away, or at least prepare time for when you know you will actually do them.

I hope this helps

Good Luck

For every subject have a notebook for lecture notes and one for homework then have a file for handouts. I know it seems a lot but it helps to keep you organised.

The general rule is that for every hour you spend in class you should spend an hour doing your own work and reasearch etc.

So allocate a subject a night to get yourself thru everything with your homework always being your priority.

I know its difficult at the start but once u get into the way of working u will be fine.

When it comes to exam time make yourself a time table to study certain subjects each night in order to get thru the coursework but the best thing to do is not to be overwhelmed and get organised! Hope this helps and good luck! x

When I was in college I had one notebook for everything. So what I did was that I wrote the date and the subject at the top. Since my schedule was always the same, I knew what day I had what courses and based on that I could refer to my notes.

My sister did the same thing, but she also had a notebook for each course where she would copy her rough notes into the clean notebook.

What I sense from what you are saying is that you are simply overwhelmed by your new environment. It'll take a couple of months for you to settle down an get into the flow of college. Watch, before you know it, you'll settle into a nice groove and things will run smoothly for you.

GOOD LUCK

I just graduated with a major in Bio and I never took anything less than 18 credits so I know you can do it. You know my brother started college in August and he asked me that and I thought he was retarded. I guess it is more common than I thought. I had to sit down with him and get him organized. You really have to figure out what works for you. How do you learn? For me and the sciences I have to write it down again and I will remember, I cant just read it unless it is really interesting. Then I just read my rewritten notes and not the book or lecture notes. Get a notebook with dividers so you can take stuff in and out (for the syllabus and handouts). Get little spirals for each class(or a multi-subject spiral for each day) and put the lecture notes in them. It is so much easier when everything is in one place so when you need it you know where to look.

Look on campus for a study center or tutoring center. They can sit down with you and show exactly what you should be doing. The first year of college is about adapting, so just take your time and come up with a plan that works for you. Don't be too hard on yourself.

You can get a lot of advice from Franklin Covey...there's even a planner that goes with it (i.e. how to prioritize and set aside time etc.)
