I think real sugar is better than artificial but am I right?

It depends on your point of view. In the US, Red Coke is made with high fructose corn syrup, not sugar and HFCS is one of the most toxic substances regularly consumed in this country.

Add to that the acids in coke that disolve the enamel in your teeth and that leach calcium from your bones, PLUS the artificial flavors and colors and it is pretty easy to decide that Coke (and sodas like it) are among the worst possible substances you can ingest.

That said, the jury is still out on whether or not the sweeteners used in lieu of sugar and HFCS are any better for your body. Aspartame, which is used most often has suffered from a slew of bad press. Whether or not it causes cancer is debatable, however new research is beginning to suggest that it still messes with blood sugar and can make you hungrier, thus negating the concept that consuming a diet soda will help you eat less.

Splenda is currently believed to be safe, but the same research on insulin and blood sugar suggests that all artificial sweeteners may cause blood sugar fluctuations.

So...is real sugar healthier? In a pure sense, yes, but again, soda made in the US is made with HFCS, not sugar (though some may have both). That's why Mexican Coke and Irish Dr. Pepper are preferred because they use sugar instead.

However, you have to look at the whole package. COKE is really bad for your body. Period. I've never met a morbidly obese person without a soda addiction. Some people drink several QUARTS a day!

Diet soda is better in that it has no calories. If drinking diet soda keeps you from drinking sweetened sodas than it is probably a much better choice.

Ultimately what your body NEEDS is plain ol' fashioned water. Not juice, not juice drinks, not soda, not sweetened substitutes.
Your body needs at least 8 full cups a day of water to function correctly and to eliminate other toxins from your body.

Original Coke is no longer made with sugar. It is made with high fructose corn syrup. For lack of a better chemical definition, picture this: eat unprocessed sugar, let it sit in your stomach for an hour, vomit it up, and then sweeten your food. You body does not digest it for it thinks it is already digested. Basically, your liver just turns it into fat.

Diet Coke has aspartame. And while I am not in league with the Nature Kooks, it has been linked to breast problems. Basically, if it was cooked up in a lab, it can't be good for you.

Cola in general is also bad because of the amount of citric acid in them. It tears the enamel off your teeth. God only knows what it does inside.

Take some juice and cut it with club soda. That is what I do.

Probably not. Diet Coke contains aspartame which is a chemical and supposed to be toxic to humans.

Splenda, on the other hand has not been proven to be toxic, so if you're looking for a sugar substitute it might be the way to go. It is supposedly made from real sugar (sugar alcohol?) and is more real than nutrasweet type products.

it depends. In my opinion regular coke is more healthy because of the lack of caffiene, ont the artificial sugar.

but if you are absolutly addicted to soda, you are better off with diet coke because then the sugar becomes too much.

doet coke, 45 mg per serving, regular coke, 34, the difference is much less than ithought i'll give you that much. but definitely significant

If diet Coke contains Nutra-Sweet, then no. Both are very unhealthy. They replaced sugar with synthetic sugar called Nutra-Sweet. This attractive red swirly symbol indicating Nutra-Sweet was made to be a warning, but was spun around to make it sound like it was a good thing. It has been rumored that Nutra-Sweet substances literally make holes in your brain. I cannot verify that, like I said it is a rumor. You may be able to find some scientific evidence otherwise.

Try water. Perfectly healthy. Soda may be blamed for our increasingly overweight society. (Diet or not)

Not too sure which is better...but I heard that the supplement in in diet sodas actually make you crave food, so in a "diet" sense it isn't really helping you. Sorry if this didn't help.
