Breathe very heavily on the person sitting next to you. If they get up and leave after a while, it means it got too crowded for them......ergo air takes up space.

Blow bubbles with a straw in to a full water. The water that spills or is "displaced" from the glass is the volume of the air blown in to the glass

With those space saver bags on T.V. You fill it with linens or something, then you remove the air with your vaccuum cleaner and it flattens. Or any food vaccuum sealer.
