We have a debate at school and we're on the affirmative side. We think that downloading music for free should be banned.

That sounds all fine but the problem is how do you control it? P2P is the way most files are transfered and it is very hard to shut down because the users share the files with each other. The RIAA has tried to sue some individuals but usually the lawsuits are thrown out. In short, it shouldbe illegal but it really can't be stopped. The only way to beat it is to provide a better service for cheap. Basically Itunes is the only service that stands a chance.

Yes it definitely should be banned. Imagine you are selling your album and people actually goes to the net to download your songs instead of buying your album, how disgraceful! In fact, over at my country, the government is already planting a fine if they caught anyone downloading music for free, or should we say, illegally.

Of course it should be.

...unless the author agrees to have his music downloaded. That's a fine free way to have your name easily spread around the world.

Unless it is with the permission of the artist(s), yes it should be banned. Piracy sounds like an old fashioned word, but its very much alive today!
