They are named after pubs because when the first king of England (Terry the First) had a son he offered it to the people to name. This was quite practical as at the time England had a population of 5.
In recent times however, the population has become too large to decide on a royal name peacefully, and thus the decision was taken to name all newborn royals after the pub in which the child was conceived.

Did you ever think that maybe the pubs are named after the royal family, since the royal family has been around for quite some time?
