Windows Media has issues with DVDs. Some only work. You can get hold of VLC Media player which can virtually play everything or get hold of free DVD player software from any freeware sight. Here's some to get you going:

I'm using a free player called AVS DVD Player (from AVS Media) and it works nicely with me

Hi!

Media player 10 is not very stable and not very... finished, as far as I can tell. Try uninstalling to your previous Windows Media Player 9. If this is not an option, you can surely find free DVD player software over the Internet.
As far as I know, WMP 10 is a beta, but, of course, I might be wrong.
Good luck!

For all of them who told you that the answer is no they are wrong, you can play them and WMP 10 isn't a Beta Version as someone mentioned, Beta Version is WMP 11. Thing is that there are some files which are in AVI format, compressed from DVDs, which need special codecs, if this is the case go to this link and download ffdshow and it'll help you view and listen all your media files.

Good Luck.

Window Media Player cannot play dvds. If you want to watch one, you need to download a dvd player like Sonic. Hope this helps.

You can only play dvds in WMP 10 (or any other media player) only IF you have a software DVD decoder installed (Windvd or PowerDVD are software dvd players that also include the decoder), if you don't have the decoder you can't watch dvds.

Try downloading this Windvd trial and see if it allows you.

Download media player classic.
It's free, is very small and doesn't need installing.
(looks a little like WMP 6.4, but nothing to do with Micro$oft)

EDIT: VLC also a good shout but I prefer MPC because it doesn't need to be installed -- personal preference though
