I say, let the bar/restaurant OWNER decide what they want to do. If YOU, the consumer, do not want to be in smoke, DON'T GO THERE!

They're trying to do it.
There will be no smoking in restaurants and bars, places of business and hospitals. Most hospitals are already no smoking.
You will have to be at least 15 feet away from a door. There will be no smoking at all on any property owned by a hospital. So you can't go outside in the parking lot and smoke.
This will be for the whole county.

Yes: in the city I used to live in. I'm not a smoker and I really appreciated it. Several years ago, when it was enacted, business owners were in a tizzy about it. But as it played out, it really didn't affect them adversely. In that city, smoking is allowed in bars if the bar is closed off to the other dining areas.
However, in the city I now live in, there isn't a ban and I don't even hear any talk of it. We rely heavily on tourism so I'm not sure if the business owners want to take what they percieve as a risk, and ban smoking in their facilities. It's too bad.

If it is a full fledged bar and less than 50% of its sales are food then you can smoke in it. But if it is a restaurant and over 50% of the sales are food then you can not smoke in it. I was a smoker but not a drinker. When I quit smoking I was grateful that no one around me in a restaurant could smoke until I got strong enough to smell smoke and not want a cigarette.

My entire state (NJ) has a smoking ban in public places, except for casinos, which makes absolutely no sense. in my mind it's either no smoking anywhere, or let us smoke in restaurants and bars. I hate the double standard of it all.
But then again, NJ is the most corrupt state, so i'm not really surprised.

there is a "no smoking" ban for inside of the bars, but you can go outside and smoke. Towns: Pleasanton, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mt. View....pretty much South Bay and East Bay California.
I know in Texas over by Dallas area that you can smoke inside of the bars. I went there to visit my cuz...it was kinda butt..it's cool and all, but you can't breath and it is sometimes already stuffy in those places to begin with.

Yes it was very recently enacted, and contrary to the fears of many, people still go out and enjoy themselves, the smokers can step out for a smoke and have a little social scene outside for a few minutes, everyone inside enjoys the whole breathing thing and in the end you go home and still smell nice.
I'm not even sure what took so long.
NY and other places have been doing it successfully for years....

I wish they did. As a non smoker there is nothing worse that sitting near someone smoking or even having to walk through the smoking area. I then smell like smoke and can even feel it on my skin. Occasionally it also gives me headaches.

Yes, as a matter of fact it is a state law as well. I am glad of that, too. I don't want my dinner ruined because of second hand smoke.
