I was just on the converse website designing a pair of Chuck Taylor's, and I read that converse are not supposed to be washed in a machine. Especially if these are your work pair, spot clean them with soap and water, or hand wash them in the sink with some gentle detergent such as Woolite or Ecover Delicate Wash. If the smell is still there, try something like Odor Eaters by Dr. Scholl's...it is the best for taking away any nasty odor from shoes, and it really takes it away. It doesn't disguise like some products...amazing!
Anyway, good luck! But to keep your shoes from getting misshapen or anything bad happening to them, I would definitely hand wash them.

Well if you put them in a washing machine, they won't dry for awhile, my converse have been though hell, now if you are looking for a clean like a BRAND NEW fresh outta the box clean, then you are better off getting a new pair....but...if you don't mind a bit grungy'ness then I will suggest putting them in a dryer (BUT NOT YOUR OWN go spend 50 cents at the washateria!) If you do decide to wash them in the machine, then do it on delicate and again..not in your own....at the washateria...shoes can really mess up a washing machine or dryer!

I haven't washed them in a washing machine before (might try the above suggestions) but I have hand-washed them before. Just some soapy water in a sink plus a sponge to clean them worked fine for me.

I wash my white ones in the washing machine all the time. It works great. I have an adapter for my dryer so they don't tumble around in there. I'm sure you can air dry them too.

if they are the old school fabric chuck taylors then go ahead and toss them on with a few old towels and regular wash. Just be sure to remove them as soon as they are finished. Stuff some crinkled newspaper into them to dry quick and easy!

Put them in a pillowcase and put them on a 40 degree wash, plus use a quick wash programme if you have one.

soak them in baking soda-which will do away with the scent and launch the grease stains - use your judgment for the quantity time to soak-the heavier the grease stain the longer to soak. wash as popular
