I'm my line of work ( I work for a non-profit organization ) I see many people. I have witness so many single mothers taking out there stress on the child. Ofcourse sometimes a child deserves a spanking, but it just kills me to witness this. Today inside my office this single mother came in with her 4 year old son, she wanted me to return her some money, but im not authorize to do so and I explain, she understands, the little boy keeps on buggin her but in a way any child would, she says "excuse me" to me and graves her shoe and starts HITTING HER SON. I complitly FROZE. I mean what can someone do in that situation....I wish there was something, but I really don't know how to handle that...what you think ?

It's quite an honor for her to consider you as a father to her children already since you said you guys have been together for only 6 weeks. That's something to really hold to heart. However, all of this change that she's making you go through, within such a short amount of time period, may be overwhelming for you. I think you should really let her know that you're not used to the change, especially since you barely moved in. You weren't aware that you were going to have to change your lifestyle so drastically. Perhaps she overlooked it and didn't realize that she's making you change so much. If she seems to ignore it or doesn't agree with you that you want still be who you are and be comfortable with yourself, perhaps this lifestyle isn't for you and you'd need to leave. Best wishes.

Well, personally I think not enough parents hit their children, a belt is fine when the child has severely misbehaved, and should really only be used to the degree that a child should learn the values of moral integrity, this would end at about 4. However, to hit someone with a shoe is a rather serious gravity and could constitute child abuse, especially without a particularly good reason.

I agree with spanking, but what that woman did, is not only insulting to the child, but it borders on abuse. I would have said something to her but not infront of the child and in a kind manner because obviously the mother was already angry. If she is throwing a shoe in front of you, what is she throwing at home? I spank my child but very seldom as taking something away from him for some time is more effective in curving his behavior.

Depending on your work with the non-profit, you might be considered as a mandated reporter. It is something like school teachers, counselors, pastors, etc. This woman definately needs some intervention.

I'd concider that a weapon and report her. A hand maybe, but not a shoe. I think the rule is, if it leaves a mark (red or a bruise) it's abuse.
